Safer Routes To School
Sustrans is a sustainable transport charity that works on practical projects to encourage people to walk, cycle and use public transport for health, safety and environmental reasons. Sustrans aims to create a Safe Route to School for every child in the UK.
In December 1999 the Scottish Executive published "How to Run a Safer Routes to School Scheme", a copy of which was sent to all schools.
Schools in Grampian are encouraged to produce school travel plans in conjunction with their Local Authority. School travel plans encompass all the issues relevant to journeys to and from the school, including concerns about safety and health and proposals for ways to make improvements.
