A Managed Clinical Network (MCN) involves a variety of healthcare professionals working and planning together to improve patient pathways of care and to improve the patient experience. One of the recommendations of the NHS Grampian Dental Plan 2008 (A Plan for Improving Oral Health and Modernising NHS Dental Services in NHS Grampian) was the formation of an MCN for Oral and Dental Health in Grampian. A series of sub-groups and working groups were set up during the course of 2009 to allow staff from all aspects of dentistry (community dentists, salaried dentists, maxillo-facial consultants, orthodontists etc) to get together to discuss ways to streamline patient pathways and improve the patient experience for those undergoing dental care in Grampian.
The MCN for Oral and Dental Health is still in the developmental stages, but its membership and activities will be expanded throughout 2010.
The MCN Annual Plan paper sets out in detail the background, vision and objectives for the MCN for Oral and Dental Health for 2009 - 2012.
