What is a Health Promoting School (HPS)?

banner1

A Health Promoting School is one in which health promotion is not only taught in the formal curriculum, but is re-inforced throughout all aspects of school life and through involvement with the wider community.

A Health Promoting School aims to promote the physical, social and emotional health and well-being of all pupils and staff and to work with others in identifying and meeting the health needs of the whole school and the wider community.  The concept is also a key aspect of the Integrated Community School initiative.

Becoming a Health Promoting School provides a way for each school to listen to and take account of the views of the whole school - children and young people, parents, staff and wider community. About HPS

  • Promote the physical, social, spiritual, mental and emotional health and wellbeing of all children, young people and staff.
  • Identify and respond to the health needs of whole school communities and contribute to meeting these needs.
