History and Background

Getting it Right for Every Child is the programme for change that will revolutionise services for children.  A number of government reviews found that too many children are not getting the help they need when they need it.  Download the history document for more information.

The Integrated Assessment Planning and recording Framework is one of the 'building blocks' for the wider range of policy developments moving towards greater integration of children's services.  To read more download the background document.

Briefly the Kaizen process involves freeing staff from their day to day roles in order that they can undertake sustained activity on solving a problem/improving service delivery.

It is imperative to the success of the IAF that the process is owned by those who will be involved in implementing it.  The two Road test areas for Aberdeenshire's Integrated Assessment Framework are Alford CSN and Inverurie CSN.

Implementation of the IAF process started in these areas in March 2007.

The Road Test areas will allow us the opportunity to test out the process and learn and make any adaptation as required.  Practitioners in these areas will be actively involved in consultation about the process and whether it is fit for purpose, before the IAF is rolled out across Aberdeenshire.

Road testing the Aberdeenshire Integrated Assessment Framework

In response to the national agenda, the Kaizen Team was tasked with developing a single, standardised Aberdeenshire model of Integrated Assessment, Planning and Recording, for children and young people.

The Kaizen team Goals were;

  • To develop and implement a standardised process for integrated assessment, planning and recording between NHS Grampian and Aberdeenshire Council for vulnerable children within the context of 'Getting It Right for Every Child'.
  • To design and test this process with the full participation of children and young people with significant additional needs whilst ensuring the full involvement of their families.
  • Develop a set of standards against which outcomes can be measured.

The Kaizen team made recommendation to Senior Management Teams across the 3 Services involved and the Inverurie and Alford Community School Network areas were approved as road Test areas.

Aims of Road Testing:

  • Facilitate ownership of the IAF process and implementation at CSN level.
  • Test out, review and develop the IAF process and associated procedures prior to implementation, in partnership with Children's Service practitioners
  • Raise awareness of practitioners working with children, young people and families of the 'Getting it Right' agenda and the Integrated Assessment Framework.
