Introduction

The Scottish Government has a vision that every child in Scotland has a right to be:

Aberdeenshire IAF triangle

  • A confident individual
  • An effective communicator
  • A successful learner
  • A responsible citizen

Getting it right for every child is the Scottish Government's agenda for achieving this vision by improving outcomes for children and their families through earlier intervention and changes in the way services and agencies work together and work in partnership with parents and children or young people. Click here for a Guide to Getting it right for every child which has been written by the Scottish Government and reflects the operational guidance and documentation which has been developed in Aberdeenshire.

Aberdeenshire Council, NHS Grampian, Grampian Police and the Scottish Children's Reporter Administration (SCRA) are working in partnership to take forward the Getting it right for every child agenda.

The details of how this is being taken forward can be found in Getting it Right for Aberdeenshire's Children.

The Integrated Assessment Framework (IAF) is a central component of the Getting it right for every child agenda.

At a practical level, the Integrated Assessment Framework introduces:

  • a structured process for assessment and planning for use across all Children's Services which ensures that children, young people and their families are kept at the centre of the process
  • standardised models of assessment , planning and recording
  • the potential for appropriate services and agencies to combine together into an integrated team which will be the most effective in meeting the needs of individual children.
  • a consistent approach to information sharing between agencies and services

Awareness Raising Events for the Integrated Assessment Framework have been held within each of the 17 Community School Networks and were attended by professionals and practitioners from the Education, Learning and Leisure Service, the Housing and Social Work Service, Grampian Police, NHS Grampian, SCRA and representatives from the private and voluntary sector.

Phase 2 of the implementation is now in progress to embed the process within Children's Services across Aberdeenshire.
